Eric Tigerstedt, Finland

Eric Tigerstedt

Eric Tigerstedt was a Finnish inventor and engineer who lived from 1887 to 1925. He is best known for his work in the field of sound recording and playback.

Tigerstedt was born in Helsinki, Finland, and received his education at the Helsinki University of Technology. He began his career working as an engineer for the Finnish Post Office, where he helped to develop a number of communication technologies.

In the early 1910s, Tigerstedt turned his attention to the field of sound recording and playback. He invented a device called the "Televox" that was capable of recording and playing back sound on a magnetic wire. This was a major breakthrough in the field, as previous sound recording technologies relied on wax cylinders or discs.

Tigerstedt continued to refine his invention, and in 1914 he patented a new version of the Televox that used a magnetic tape instead of a wire. This was one of the first magnetic tape recorders ever invented, and it paved the way for many of the sound recording technologies we use today.

Despite his significant contributions to the field of sound recording, Tigerstedt's life was cut tragically short when he died of pneumonia in 1925, at the age of just 37. However, his legacy lives on, and he is remembered as a pioneering inventor and engineer who helped to revolutionize the way we record and play back sound.
